ScreenSkills Select Congress 2022: Programme

This was the programme for the ScreenSkills Select Congress 2022 - Re-writing the rules: talent and global content. It took place on Wednesday 23 March.

Kate Bulkley, Media analyst and journalist.

Mark and Kate will discuss how the screen industries’ companies are rethinking their workforce, their ways of working, and the impact of diversity and sustainability.

Panel: The global TV economy - the impact for talent

Loren Baxter, Head of Acquisitions at Off the Fence, with a catalogue of more than 6,000 hours of diverse programming across multiple genres.

Tim Bryans, Managing Director and Co-Founder, ALT Animation, who have produced animations for Disney, CBBC, Nickelodeon and Channel 4.

Alan, Loren and Tim will discuss the new and emerging global commercial models and the demand for talent worldwide.

Panel: Time to re-think - a supportive community for talent

Speakers

Brian Hill, Managing Director, Century Films, who recently created for the BBC Do Black Lives Still Matter and A Pandemic Poem: Where Did the World Go?

Suzanne Burns, HR and Communications Director, STV, part of the ITV network.

Brian and Suzanne will set out their views on how the industry is resetting the standards of behaviour and well-being, and support for students' skills. This includes on how best to recognise and manage their own wellbeing and that of others.

Sustainability quiz

Speaker

Lettija Lee, TV presenter and brand development and marketing consultant.

Lettija will set an interactive quiz on environmental impact which is becoming increasingly important for new entrants to the industry to understand.

Academic international case study

Speaker

Liz Lander, Production design lecturer, Puttnam School of Film and Animation (Singapore).

Liz will speak about how students will need to know how to excel in a diverse, multi-disciplinary environment by utilising and integrating a wide range of emerging technologies.

Tamara Howe, Director of Commercial and Operations, Naked TV and former Controller of Business at BBC Comedy and Entertainment. Naked TV produces The Apprentice and Escape to the Country.

Hannah Gosney, Company Director, Media Career Advice.

Addie Orfila, Production executive, trainer, and former head of production for Hollyoaks and production manager for Coronation Street.

Tamara, Adam, Hannah and Addie will discuss industry-wide skills shortages throughout the screen industries.
